Feni: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said no party was defeated in the recent municipal elections rather democracy won through the election.

The minister after observing the construction work of six-lane flyover at Mohipal in Feni told journalists that after a long breach two main political parties, Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), of the country faced off against each other in the municipality polls. The candidates also contested in the election using their party symbols for the first time.

Feni-2 constituency member Nizam Uddin Hazari, assistant superintendent of police Amirul Islam and Roads and Highways Department senior officials were also present during his visit.

Obaidul Quader said there was lesser violence and ferocity then it was anticipated before the election.

Thanking BNP for joining the election, he said BNP will not regret now if they would have participated in the 5-January national election.

Obaidul Quader said the first phase of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway construction work will be completed within 15 days.

He hoped Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate structure of four lanes in May this year.
