Gouging out eyes for money: 8 cops, 5 others sued

Khulna: A case was filed against 13 people, including the officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station and seven other policemen, for allegedly gouging out eyes of a man as he failed to pay them Tk 1,50,000 as per their demand.

The victim has been identified as Md Shahjalal, a resident of Kaukhali upazila of Pirojpur, reports news agency UNB.

Victim's mother filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday morning accusing eight policemen, three Ansar members and two other people while the court fixed September 17 for passing an order.

The accused are- officer-in-charge of Khalispur Police Station Nasim Khan, sub-inspectors Russel, Tapash Roy, Morselim Molla, Mizan, Mamun, Nur Islam, assistant sub-inspector Syed Saheb Ali, soldier of Ansar Afsar Ali, lance nayek Abul Hossain, naik Rezaul, Suma Aktar , a resident of Jessore Road in Khalishpur and Russel, son of Lutfar Hawladar of Badamtala area.

According to the complaint, Shajahan went to his in-law's house at Khalishpur in Khulna. On July 18 night, Shahjahan was picked up from the area and then taken to Khalishpur police station. Later police demanded Tk 1,50,000 from his family for his release but Shajahan's family failed to give the money.

On the next day Shahjahan's family members found him at the Khulna Medical College and Hospital with his eyes gouged out.

Shahjahan said the policemen gouged outs his eyes with a screw driver taking him to remote place and left him at the hospital.

However, police also filed a snatching case with Khalispur Police Station and shown Shajahan arrested in the case.
