Munshiganj: Two women were reportedly raped before being killed by slitting throats at Barek’s Nengtar Shrine at Bhatishil temple in Katalkhali of Sadar Upazila in Munshiganj on Tuesday night.

The Sadar police Officer-in-charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain on Wednesday morning told NTV Online, the women were killed on Tuesday night. Being informed, the law enforcers went to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The reason behind the murder could not be known yet.

The deceased are Amena Begun, in his sixties, a caretaker of the shrine, and her 4-year-old Taijun Khatun, a resident of Dhaka. Taijun was a niece of Amena. She went there to visit Amena.

District superintendent of police (SP) Zayedul told NTV Online, ‘police recovered recently used condoms from the spot. Primarily, it is believed that the women were raped before the murder. Police has already started investigation.’

The shrine’s caretaker Mohammad Masud Khan said Amena and Taijun slept together at a room. He found their bodies lying on the floor, when he came to see them at about 7:30am. Then, he called police.

Masud said Amena’s husband Barek is the owner of the shrine. Amena, a resident of the village of Guagaichha, used to look after the shrine for last 30 years.
