BNP chairperson’s adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque on Wednesday said their party wants to support the government in resolving Rohingya crisis and protecting the ethnic community of Myanmar.

‘Though they (govt) are trying to eliminate us by resorting to killing and enforced disappearance, we’ll remain beside it in protecting Rohingyas,’ he said, reports the UNB.

Speaking at a token sit-in programme, the BNP leader further said, ‘We’ll extend our support to the government if it takes any effective step for resolving the Rohingya crisis. We demand the government place the recommendations of the Kofi Annan Commission for putting pressure on Myanmar to implement those.’

Bangladesh National Awami Party arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting genocide against Rohingya Muslim in Myanmar and calling upon people to boycott products produced by the country.

Mentioning that the Myanmar authorities are carrying out unprecedented genocide against Rohingyas and persecution on them, Farroque said the country’s 16 crore people are united against the Myanmar’s repressive acts.

‘We want Rohingyas to be provided with food, healthcare and security. At the same time, the government must force Myanmar to take back Rohingyas to their country through active diplomatic efforts,’ he said.

The BNP leader said the government should take steps for holding an all-party roundtable discussion to work out strategies to tackle the Rohingya crisis. ‘The government should arrange the all-party discussion over the issue in the interest of the country and democracy.’

Farroque said Myanmar has initiated a war not against a particular religious community, but humanity. ‘We must put up a resistance against it by creating public opinion and raising voice against it.’
