Benapole: Three customs officials were withdrawn on Thursday night from Benapole International Check Post on charge of irregularities and corruption.

Benapole check post checking centre revenue officer Humayun Kabir said the withdrawn officers include revenue officer Kamrul Islam, assistant revenue officers Azizul Haque and Sultan Mia.

Customs sources said the three officers had been taking bribe from passengers in the check post for long.

Sources concerned said the trio reportedly took Tk 2000 as bribe from Moshahraf Hossin Mintu, a Bangladeshi, who returned from Kalkata on 12 September. Later, he filed a complaint to Benapole customs commissioner Mohammad Shawkat Hossain.

They were withdrawn as evidence was found against them in primary investigation.
