Daylong hartal underway in Khagrachhari

Khagrachhari: The day-long hartal, demanding cancellation of the primary school teachers’ recruitment process and protesting murder of a Chhatra Dal leader, is underway peacefully in Khagrachhari on Monday.
Parbataya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad and Sushama Unnyan Committee of the district separately enforced the daylong shutdown to realize their separate demands.
No vehicle was seen plying the roads in the district while no long-route bus left the district town. Shops also remained closed for the hartal.
A large number of policemen have been deployed at several important points of the district to fend off any trouble.
Earlier on Sunday, the district administration slapped section 144 in Khagrachhari municipality area from morning to evening to avoid any untoward incident centring a protest programme seeking cancellation of the primary school teachers’ recruitment process.
On Tuesday, Chhatra Dal leader Rabiul Islam was found dead in Taikarma area in Guimara upazila of the district.
Meanwhile, two people were arrested in this connection.
