The returnees are Arif Uddin, 14, son of Kabir Uddin of Rayenda of Bagerhat district; Sadik Hossain Gazi, 15, son of Abdul Halim, a resident of Ghoga village in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district; Rahmat Ali, 14, son of Idris Ali, hailing from Shelar Danga village in Satkhira Sadar upazila; Jahidul Sheikh, 15, son of Rashid Uddin of Boxsara Pashchimpara village in Satkhira Sadar upazila; Chandan Kar, 14, son of Anukul Kar, a resident of Minakkher village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila; Abul Hossain, 14, son of Abdur Rashid, hailing from Bara Anchra village of Jessore district; and Mafizul Mollah, 13, son of Maharaj Mollah, a resident of Dhansagar village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.

Subedar Abdul Hamid, commander of Benapole Check post of BGB, said the seven teenagers entered the Indian Territory two years back without valid documents through several border points of Benapole in search of jobs.

Later, Indian police arrested them from Alipur in Kolkata.

A case was filed against them and an Indian court awarded them one and a half years’ imprisonment each for crossing the border without valid documents.

The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests from the Home Ministry of Bangladesh through letters several times.

Benapole port thana police handed them over to their respective families through Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association.
