Chittagong: The second consignment of China’s relief for the Rohingya refugees, who have fled to Bangladesh amid persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State since August 25, arrived in Chittagong on Thursday.

A cargo flight of China with 53.50 tonnes of relief materials, including 2,000 pieces of tents and 3,000 pieces of blankets, arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport in the morning.

Mohammad Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Chittagong, received the relief items from Chinese Embassy Economic and Commercial Counsellor Li Guangjun at around 9:30am.

Habibur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner, said China has sent 110 tonnes of relief materials for the Rohingya refugees, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh, in two phases.

The relief will be distributed among Rohingyas in Ukhiya refugee camp through Cox’ Bazar district administration, Habibur added.
