Bhairab:  A young man was killed in a reported gunfight with police after he was arrested in Syed Nazrul Islam bridge road at Bhairab in Khishoreganj in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, Shohag, around 25 years, was a robber, claimed police. He was a resident of the south area of Bhairabpur in Bhairab. Police said police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Habibullah and Constable Abdul Wahab were also injured during the gunfight. They were taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex.

Police said they recovered two machetes, a knife, a pipegine, and bullets from the spot. Shohagh was wanted in several cases filed with Bhairab police.

The Bhairab police Officer-in-charge (OC) Mokhlesur Rahman said police took Shohag in a search drive on the Syed Nazrul Islam bridge road at about 3:00am after arresting him on Tuesday. Shohag’s associates opened fire to police and left police and Shohag injured. Later, they were taken to Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctors declared Shohag death.

The Health Complex’s resident medical officer (RMO) Dr KNM Jahangir said when Shohag was brought to the hospital, he was already dead.
