10 injured in Noakhali police-BNP clash

Noakhali: The leaders and activists of local BNP wing at Maijdi in Noakhali involved in a clash with police during a processing brought by the party protesting the issue of arrest warrant against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia over crude bomb attack.
At least ten people were injured while one of them received bullet during the clash at about 12:00noon.
Two among the injured are Char Jabbar Degree College’s lecturer of department of English, Safia Sultana, and BNP activist Irfat. Safia received a bullet on her hand in the clash.
Aroung ten people including Sadar upazila BNP’s general secretary VP Jashim Uddin and district Juba Dal President Mahbub Alamgir Alo were held for their involvement in the clash.
Our correspondent said police opened sporadic fire during the one-hour long clash. On the other hand, the BNP leaders and activists hurled stones at police.
BNP leaders, activists, and witnesses said as per their schedule district leaders and activists of BNP, Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal, other wings of the party took preparation to bring a procession from the residence of BNP Vice Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan Rashid. Earlier, the activists of BNP gathered in procession at Shahjahan’s residence dodging police’s halt in several places.
Later, police tried to foil the procession as it marched towards the main road of the area. Agitated BNP activists beat the Sudharam Model Police Officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Hossain. As a consequence, police opened fire and a clash began between the groups.
Hundreds of vehicle trapped on the Maijdi-Sonapur Road immediately after the incident. The BNP leaders and activists also vandalised the vehicles.
The law enforcers also opened blank fire after entering into the residence of Mohammad Shahjahan shortly after the clash. Now, the activists of local Awami League, and members of police cordoned off the house.
However, BNP leaders, activists, and police officials refused to make any statement on the clash.
