Man killed in Narayanganj ‘gunfight’

Narayanganj:  A young man was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Narayanganj in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased is Moniruzzaman Shahin alias Bonduk Shahin, a resident of Golachipa area of Narayanganj city. Police claimed, Shahin was wanted in more than dozens cases with Sadar and Fatulla police.

District superintendent of police Moinul Islam said the gunfight took place in Boalia Khal area of Dewbhog of the city.

Shahin became popular as ‘Bonduk Shahin’ after he was held by police while carrying riffle in 90s’.

The district police said Shahin established a reign of fear at Golachipa area of the city. On 11 October, police arrested him. After interrogating Shahin, police went on a drive for recovering arms at a drug haul at about 4:30am. Sensing the presence of police, Shahin’s associates opened fire to police and police also fired back, which left Shahin dead on the spot.

Police also recovered foreign-made pistols and four bullets from the spot.
