2 cases filed over attack on Sajeda’s motorcade

Faridpur: Two cases have been filed in connection with attack on the motorcade of Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury during a factional clash of Awami League in Talma Bazar area of Nagarkanda upazila.

Humayun Kabir, sub-inspector of Nagarkanda Police Station, on Friday night filed a case with the police station accusing 13 named people making advocate Md Jamal Hossain Miah, joint general secretary of upazila Awami League and member of central Jubo Leguae and his elder brother Md Kamal Hossain Miah, member of Faridpur Zila Parisad, prime accused.

Besides, Md Arifuzzaman, union parishad chairman of Fulsuti union, filed another case against 56 named people at night.

Besides, district administration formed a probe committee led by additional deputy commissioner Eradul Haque.

Two other members of the committee are- Jamal Pasha, additional superintendent of police and Israt Jahan, acting upazila nirbahi officer of Nagarkanda.

The committee has been asked to submit report as soon as possible, said the committee head.

Officer-in-charge of Nagarkanda Police Station FM Nasim said the followers of upazila AL joint secretary Advocate Md Jamal Hossain Miah and Ayman Akbar Bablu Chowdhury, son of Sajeda Chowdhury, locked into the clash over tearing of posters of Jamal Miah’s father and damaging an archway.

A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee.

At one stage, Jamal’s supporters started throwing brick chips at the motorcade of Sajeda while it was crossing the area.

The attackers vandalised three cars of the motorcade, leaving five people, including the OC, injured.
