Nakla upazila chairman’s body found hanging

Sherpur:  The hanging body of upazila council chairman Mahabub Ali Chowdhury of Nakla upazila in Sherpur found at his residence.

The Nakla police Officer-in-charge (OC) Khan Abdul Halim Siddique told NTV Online body of Mahabub Ali, also a BNP leader, recovered after breaking the door of his residence at Fol Potti crossing near the police station at about 9:00am.

The OC added Mahbub’s family called police as they did not get any response from his bedroom. Later, police went to the spot and recovered the body after breaking the door of his bedroom.

The police official said primarily it has been believed that the upazila chairman committed suicide. However, reason behind the death can be confirmed after getting the autopsy report.

Mahbub Ali Chowdhury Monir was elected as the chairman of Nokla upazila. Earlier, he was elected as the union chairman of Char Ashtadhar of the upazila several times. His brother, late Jahed Ali Chowdhury, was a whip of national parliament and a central leader of BNP.
