Lakshmipur: Two young men received bullets during a ‘gunfight’ with police at Kamalnager upazila in Lakshmipur in the early hours of Sunday.
The injured are Main Uddin, 32, resident of Charkalkini village of Kamalnagar, and Arif Hossain, 24, resident of CharJangalia village.
Police claimed that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami activist Main Uddin, and Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal activist Arif Hossain were felling trees to block the road.

Three police members including Kamalnagar police officer-in-charge were injured in the ‘gunfight’.

The injured were taken to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. The injured police members received primary treatment.

Kamalnagar Police assistant sub-inspector Rejaul Karim said that Juba Dal and Jamaat-Shibir activists were blocking the road at about 12:45am. They hurled petrol bombs and crude bombs to petrol police’s vehicles. The miscreants also opened fire to the police. In response police fired back during which two of the miscreants received bullet injuries and the others manage to leave the spot.

Police also recovered hand saw and four fire bombs from them.
