Highest speed 50km for winter morning

Dhaka: Government fixed the maximum speed of vehicles in roads across the country at 40-50kilometres and made headlights mandatory for winter mornings, said Road, transports and bridges Minister Obaildul Quader.
The minister, after attending a meeting of National Road Security council on Tuesday, said: ‘We have decided to introduce a Road and Transport Act. Motor Ordinance Act 1983 is no longer adequate for present road security.’
Obaidul Quader said draft of the road and transport act will be presented for the upcoming winter session of national parliament’s approval.
He said the meeting also decided to form a 15-member monitoring committee to ensure security for women in transport.
The minister said women are facing sexual harassment in transports which is a matter of shame and worry for the nation.
A committee conveyed by Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) chairman has been formed to supervise the security of female passengers during their journey, added Quader.
Moreover, decision has been taken to active the Road Safety Council led by deputy commissioner.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon, Nirapad Sarak Chai founder Ilias Kanchan and representatives of ministries, secretaries, and law enforcers were present during the meeting.
