Take good care of Biman, PM asks its officials

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked all the officials and employees of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to take good care of the national airlines and ensure better passenger service so that everybody can feel proud of it as a national flag carrier, reports local news agency.

‘I’ll ask those working at Biman to keep in mind that through Biman you’re not only making your livelihood, but it’s also a symbol representing the country...it’s (Biman) your airlines and you must nurture it and develop it which will bring betterment for yourselves. It’ll be embarrassing for you in case of its degradation,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina was addressing a function marking the induction of two more new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft - ‘Meghdoot’ and ‘Moyurpankhi’—to Biman at the VVIP Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

With the induction of the two new aircraft, the total number of Biman’s own Boeing aircraft now rose to six.

The Prime Minister said the inauguration of the two 162-seat aircraft ‘Meghdoot’ and ‘Moyurpanki’ to Biman fleet will help give a boost to the country’s aviation industry through operating flights on domestic and also to neighbouring countries. ‘It’ll brighten Biman’s image abroad.’

She said the government has taken a plan for the construction of the third terminal at Dhaka airport, expansion of its runways, increasing the parking facility and upgrading gradation of the of the aviation services.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashed Khan Menon was present at the function as a special guest. Chairman of Biman Board of Directors Air Marshal Jamal Uddin (retd), Civil Aviation Secretary M Khurshid Alam Chowdhury, Charge de Affaires of the US embassy David Meale, representative of Boeing Company Savitha Gowda and acting managing director of Biman M Asaduzzaman also spoke on the occasion.
