4 Rohingyas dead as boat capsizes in Bay

Cox’s Bazar: At least 4 Rohingya people, including two minors and a woman, died as a trawler carrying them capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Inani sea beach area of  Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

The deceased are  Enamul Hasan, son of Mohammad Islam, Jhohura Begum, in her sixties, wife of Abul Kashem,

Minara Begum, 5, daughter of Ali Jhohar and Serajul Islam, 13. All of the deceased are from Buchidang area of Rakhine state of Myanmar.

Dr Amanullah, sub-assistant community medical officer of Shamlapur Family Welfare Camp, said the trawler carrying around 35 Rohingyas, who fled to Bangladesh amid persecution in Myanmar, sank in the Bay around 7:00am.

Later, four bodies were recovered from the Bay around 9:30am, said Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station.

Besides, 12 more Rohingya people suffered injuries in the incident and they took primary treatment at family welfare camp and other health centres.
