2 to walk gallows for murder in Gazipur

Gazipur: A court here on Tuesday sentenced two men to death for killing a workshop mason in Kapasia upazila in 2016.

The convicts are - Md Shakil, son of Md Mostafa, and Sanjiban Chandra Monidas, residents of Torgaon Madhyapara village of the upazila.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.

Besides, the court in another section sentenced them each five years rigorous jail terms and fined Tk 2,000.

According to prosecution, Ujjal Chandra Monidas, son of Arjan Chandra Das, also mason of a grill workshop, a resident of the same village, had gone missing on November 17 after he went out from his house.

After two days, police recovered his body as unidentified from Shitalakshya River.

Later, his family members identified his body.

A case was filed against three people mentioning names of two convicted on November 19.

After examining all the records and witnesses, A K M Enamul Haque, district and sessions judge of Gazipur court handed down the verdict acquitting another accused Bhobotosh Mallick.
