5 injured as students, transport workers clash at SUST

Sylhet: Five people were injured in a clash between a group of students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and transport workers over blocking road by the students in the campus area.
Bangladesh Chhatra League SUST unit vice-president said some students of the university put up barricade on Sylhet-Sunamganj road in front of the campus protesting the rising mugging incidents around 12 pm, halting traffic on the road.
At one stage, some transport workers attacked the agitating students, triggering a clash that left five people, including assistant proctor of Shahporan Hall Asish Kumar Banik and BBA student Al Amin, wounded.
On information police rushed in and brought the situation under control around 1:30 pm.
Officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station Shafiqul Islam said vehicular movement resumed in the area around 2pm.
Campus source said at least 20 incidents of mugging took place in the campus area in last one week where most of the victims were students.
