Munshiganj: Movement of buses from the Shimulia terminal area bus stoppage area at Lauhajang upazila in Munshiganj stopped on Sunday morning.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) claimed the vehicle movement has been halted so that their leaders and activists across the country cannot join the party’s rally, which is scheduled to hold at Suhrawardy Uddyan in Dhaka.

One of the bus workers told NTV Online, ‘We received order for not plying vehicles on roads. All of the bus companies have kept their services stopped, we just followed them.’

A passenger at the Shimulia terminal bus station area on Sunday morning said movement of Dhaka-bound buses have been stopped since about 7:00am. The passengers suffered as the vehicle plying stopped suddenly without any prior notice.

Passengers are seen waiting at several points on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway for buses.

On the other hand, the vehicle plying is quite normal from Dhaka to Shimulia terminal.

The Munshiganj district BNP General Secretary Kamruzzaman Ratan told NTV Online the bus owners’ association stopped bus movement so that, the BNP activists cannot travel to Dhaka for joining the rally.

The Lauhajang police officer-in-charge (OC) Anisur Rahman said we are going to the terminal area to observe the condition.

Moreover, sufferers said bus plying has been restricted from Narayanganj to Dhaka. A passenger, travel from Narayanganj to Dhaka, told NTV Online, Dhaka-bound bus moving has been stopped from Narayanganj since morning. However, few buses of Shital Paribahan are seen on the roads. Police put barricade on Chittagong road area.

BNP will stage a ‘showdown’ through its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Sunday from where its Chairperson Khaleda Zia will send out an important message to party rank and file about the next polls and the party’s ‘ongoing movement for restoration’ of people’s democratic rights.
