Manikganj: Two policemen sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight between the robbers and law enforcers at Saturia Bazaar in the district town on Wednesday night.

The injured policemen are Aslam and Wahiduzzaman.

Chasing the gang, police arrested one member of the gang along with a microbus.

The injured were admitted to Manikganj Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The gunfight happened while a gang of robbers were fleeing the scene after looting a jewelry shop.

Habibullah Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a gang of hoodlums around 8 swooped on the shop around 7:30 pm.

Later, they tried to flee the scene blasting crude bombs, he added.

The robbers looted ‘Nag Jewelers’ on Wednesday night and made off  with gold ornaments and cash money worth over Tk one crore by making the owner and staffs hostage.

The gold ornaments alone were said to be worth more than Tk one crore, and also raided the cash register.

Chandan Nag, owner of the shop, said the robbers took them on-gun-point and looted the gold jewelleries and cash money.
