Noakhali: Two suspected pirates were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sutlar Ghat area in Hatia upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased are Saiful, ringleader of the notorious pirate gang ‘Saiful Bahini’ and Safiul Mollah.

Jasim Uddin, commander of RAB-11, said that on secret information, a team of elite force conducted a drive in the area around 4:00 am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them, retaliated them to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left two pirates dead on the spot.

The RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.

They also recovered firearms from the spot.
