Rajshahi: Local administration imposed section 144 at Madarpur Char in Godagari upazila on Sunday as two factions of ruling Awami League arranged cricket tournament at the same venue and time on the same day.

Sources said AL faction led-by local mayor Monirul Islam Babu and Omar Faruk Chowdhury MP have arranged separate cricket tournament at the char today, creating tension in the upazila.

Apprehending trouble, the local administration on Saturday night has imposed the emergency section apparently to maintain law and order as two disputing groups did not reach any consensus, said sources at Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office.
