Netrakona: A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing a woman in Kalmakanda upazila of the district in 2014.

The court also fined Hannan Miah, about 33 years old, son of late Abul Hashem of Kandapara village in the upazila, Tk 20,000.

According to prosecution, the convict stabbed Nasima Akter, 35, wife of Billal Miah of the same village, indiscriminately with a sharp knife following a brawl over a trifling matter, living her injured on June 8, 2014.

Later, she died on way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

On June 9, 20l4, deceased’s brother Joynal Miah filed a case with Kalmakanda police station accusing Hannan.

Police submitted charge sheet against the lone accused on September 23, 2014.

After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge KM Rasheduzzaman Raja handed down the verdict.
