Bogra: A retired army officer was stabbed to death by muggers at Jahangirabad Cantonment in Shahjahanpur of the district in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased is Shafiqul Islam, about 45 years old, a retired sergeant of Bangladesh Army, son of Abdul Latif from Monohordi upazila of Narsingdi.

Additional Police Super of Bogra, Sanatan Chakraborty said Shafiqul Isalm came to the cantonment from Jessore around 3:30 am to meet his son Ashraful Islam, a member of the army.

While Shafiqul along with his son were leaving the cantonment, a group of muggers blocked their way and Shafiqul got stabbed by them as he was trying to save his son, he added.

After being rushed to the Bogra Cantonment Medical Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The body was kept at Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital after autopsy.
