Sylhet: Another defamation case was filed against acting editor of Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman on Monday for his alleged derogatory remarks about independence, sovereignty of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu and his family.

Rahat Tarafdar, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Sylhet city unit filed the Tk 500 crore defamation case with the chief metropolitan magistrate court in the district around 12:30pm.

Additional Public Prosecutor advocate Mahmudur Rahman said, the court ordered the police to look into the matter and submit an investigation report within one week.

Earlier on Sunday, sedition complaints were lodged against him in Dinajpur and in Natore on December 7.

The plaintiffs who filed these cases against him referred to Mahmudur’s speech made at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on December 1.
