BNP slams Sajeeb Wazed for predicting AL victory in next polls
Questioning the basis of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s survey report that Awami League will get more votes in the next polls than in the past, BNP on Tuesday urged the ruling party to hold a credible election to know about its actual popularity.
‘A very influential person of the ruling party, who stays abroad most of the time, used to make some rhetoric. He (Joy) had said before the 2014 polls that he had information about Awmai League’s victory. Now he has said again that Awami League will win the next the polls with more votes,’ said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, reports the UNB.
Speaking at a discussion, he further said, ‘I would like to question on the basis which you’re saying it...hold an election in a neutral manner allowing voters to exercise their right to franchise to assess your popularity.’
A faction of Samyabadi Dal arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), marking the 30th death anniversary of Comrade Mohammad Toha.
Earlier on Monday, Joy told reporters at Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office that he conveyed the ruling party leaders good news. ‘The news is that Awami League will get more votes in the next general election than it did in 2008.’
Trashing Joy’s assertion, Fakhrul suggested him to read the wall writings and try to understand the public pulse. ‘We can understand people’s pulse and we can say you (AL) will be defeated.’
He said their party does not depend on any evil force and conspiracy as people are their strength.
Fakhrul said the government must arrange the next national election under a non-party neutral administration as people will not participate in any 2014-like election.
‘The country’s people want to see a free, fair and credible election, and choose their representatives through it. There’s no point of resorting to a ploy in the name of Constitution,’ he observed.
The BNP leader called upon people from all walks of life to get united to force the government to hold the 11th parliamentary elections under an impartial administration.
