No doubt about fair polls in Rangpur city, says Ershad

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday said he has no doubt that a fair and neutral election will be held in Rangpur City Corporation on December 21.

He also said there is no need to deploy army in the election as it is local body one, not the general election.

‘Mostafa is a very popular candidate who has good connection with people of all walks of life. People here also love plough (Jatiya Party’s election symbol). I hope a peaceful and fair election will be held here and my party candidate will win it,’ Ershad said, reports the UNB.

He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his local residence in Rangpur.

Outgoing mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed is contesting the election on Awami League ticket to retain his mayoral position while Kausar Zaman Babla and Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa are vying for the post of mayor on BNP and Jatiya Party tickets respectively.

As his attention was drawn to the distribution of leaflets by Awami League men urging people not to cast vote for Jatiya Party mayoral candidate, Ershad said people will elect Mostafa as he is a good person no matter who says what.

Earlier, the Jatiya Party chief left Dhaka for Saidpur by air at 10:30am.

As he reached his Pallinibas residence from Saidpur, Jatiya Party co-chairman and its local leaders and activists greeted him presenting a bouquet.
