Ctg stampede victims’ families to get compensation: Sheikh Hasina
Chittagong: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday visited the residence of late Awami League leader ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the city and consoled his family members.
When the motorcade of Sheikh Hasina reached Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s Chashma Hill residence in Sholoshahar area around 4 pm, Mohiuddin’s wife Hasina Mohiuddin, also Chittagong Mohila League President, his two sons AL central organising secretary Mahibul Hasan Nawfel and Borhanul Hasan Chowdhury Salehin received the PM, reports the UNB.
During her 40-minute stay there, the Prime Minister announced to provide Tk 5,00,000 to each of the 10 families of those who have lost their lives in a stampede during the qulkhwani of Mohiuddin Chowdhury at Rima Convention Centre at AskarDighirpar in the city on December 18.
She handed over the cheques for financial assistance to the victim family members. The Prime Minister also embraced and consoled them there.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was present on the occasion.
ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, former Chittagong City mayor and city Awami League president, died on December 15 at the age of 73.
Leaders and activists of Awami League and Chhatra League gathered on both sides of Asian Highway, from Agrabad to Sholoshahar gate No 2, to welcome Sheikh Hasina, also the President of the ruling Awami League.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister joined the President Parade-2017 marking the passing out of the Midshipmen-2015 and the Direct Entry Officers (DEO) 2017/B batches of Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA).
