Panchagarh: Police arrested a madrasah teacher from Bhaulaganj area of Debiganj upazila on Sunday night for allegedly assaulting a student sexually.

The arrestee is Md Shahidul Islam, 48, son of Nasimuddin hailing from Gorgram Machhpara in Sadar upazila and a teacher of Nurul Alam Jamia Rahmania Kawmi Madrasah situated at Bhaulaganj.

Police said Shahidul had long been unleashing sexual assault on the 11-year-old student at his madrasah room.

His perversion came to light on Saturday when the victim narrated it to his father who went to the madrasah to see his son.

On Sunday evening, agitated madrasah students, guardians and locals locked the teacher in his room and informed police who later arrested him.

Victim’s father filed a case against the teacher with Debiganj Police Station on Monday morning.

There were allegations of molesting several more students against the teacher, said officer-in-Charge of the police station Aminul Islam.
