Dhaka: Popular Band singer Shafin Ahmed will contest in the by-polls to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral post.

Chairman of newly formed Nationalist Democratic Movement, Bobby Hajjaj, on Tuesday announced singer Shafin’s name as candidate at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.

Sharing Shafin’s candidature, Boby Hajjaj in his facebook page wrote, ‘We hope to see our dreams for Dhaka city realized. Shafin Ahmed shall be a great representative of the people.’

Shafin has been going through some difficulties with his band members. Members of popular musical band—MILES—Hamin Ahmed, Manam Ahmed, Syed Ziaur Rahman Turjo and Syed Iqbal Asif Jewel in an official Facebook message said on Tuesday that MILES is compelled to have Shafin Ahmed discharged from the band with immediate effect under the current circumstances.

Former president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exports Association Md Atiqul Islam is likely to get ruling party ticket while Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is likely to nominate Tabith Awal.

Former mayor Annisul Huq, who passed away recently, had bagged 460,000 votes and his nearest contestant Tabith Awal got 325,000 votes in the last DNCC election that BNP boycotted when the polls were halfway through.
