Barisal: A 13-year-old girl, who reportedly set her on fire after being raped by a neighbour at Halta village of Bakerganj upazila, died at a hospital in Dhaka on Sunday.

Sonia, daughter of Dulal Khan of the village, succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon.

Dulal said their neighbour Asad Khan took Sonia to his house on Wednesday in the name of frying an egg for him when his parents were outside. However, he raped the girl there.

Returning home, the girl set her ablaze around 12 noon pouring kerosene on her body on the day.

She was first taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Dhaka as her condition worsened.

Officer-in-charge of Bakerganj Police Station Md Masuduzzaman said no one was arrested in this connection as victim's family did not file any complaint.
