Jessore: A listed criminal was killed in a 'gunfight' between some criminals and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Kashipur in Jhikargachha upazila earlySaturday.

The deceased was identified as Babu alias Palsar Babu, 35, the main accused in Awami League activist Abbas Mollah murder case and a resident of Jhikargachha upazila.

Major Zia, Jessore camp commander of RAB-6, said tipped off over arms trading, a team of RAB officials went there at around4am. Sensing the presence of RAB men, the miscreants opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate.

After the gunfight, the elite force members recovered the body of Babu, a pistol, one round of bullet and a magazine from the spot.
