Schools’ inclusion in MPO underway, says Nahid

Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday told Parliament that his ministry continues the process of including non-MPO schools under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO).
‘The matter of inclusion of Non-MPO schools under the MPO is now under active consideration of the government. The ministry continues the activities to this end,’ he said while replying to a starred question from Jatiya Party MP AKM Mayeedul Islam (Kurigram-3), reports the UNB.
The Education Minister said a policy over organogram of educational institutions and MPO has been prepared following the directives of the Prime Minister.
‘On January 1, 2018, the policy was sent to the Finance Division for getting required opinion and approval,’ he said.
In reply to another starred question from independent MP Abdul Matin, the Minister said every year some educational institutions charges additional money as admission and examination fees defying the circular issued by the Education Ministry.
But, Nahid said, the additional money charged by the institutions was given back to the people concerned with initiatives of the ministry.
He said the government issued circular fixing the admission and examination fees following receiving opinions from all the concerned.
Responding to an unstarred question from Awami League MP Didarul Alam (Chittagong-4), the Education Minister informed the House that the teacher-student ratio in the country’s public university is 1:20.
The country’s 37 public universities have total 31.50 lakh students. Of them, 17,57,327 male students and 13,93,082 female students, Nahid said.
