Mongla: Local people beat a Royal Bengal Tiger dead after it entered into the village from the Sundarbans at Moreganj in Bagerhat.

The villagers said the tiger entered into the village of Ghulishakhali near the Sundarban on Monday night. After spending a sleepless night in fear, the people beat dead the tiger at about 7:00am.

Md Mahmudul Hasan, East Sundarbans divisional forest officer (DFO) said the tiger entered the village crossing the Bhola River and attacked local farmer Masud, in his thirties, while he was working at his paddy field.

Hearing his scream, locals rushed in and beat up the tiger, leaving it dead.

At least six people were injured while saving Masud from the grip of the tiger.

Mahmudul Hassan said they were informed about the incident and a team of forest officials went to the spot.

The forest officials ecovered the man-eater and find out the reason behind its death.
