‘Mugger’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

Mymensingh: A young man was killed in a reported gunfight with police at the suburb of Mymensingh in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased is Mohammad Nayem. Police claimed him as a professional mugger.
District Detective Branch (DB) Sub-inspector (SI) Parimal Das told the journalists, a college student, named Ibrahim Khalil, was stabbed dead at Bolashpur Bazar area on 19 January.
On Wednesday night, police detained nabbed in Krishtopur area of the city for his alleged connection in Khalil murder. Later, according to Nayeem’s information police conducted a raid in the Bolashpur area in the early hours of Thursday. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, a team of muggers hurled crude bombs to police, police also fired back, which left Nayeem dead on the spot.
Moreover, Kotwali Model Police SI Mahbub and DB Constable Rashed were also injured during the raid. They were taken to Mymensingh Police Lines Hospital.
However, the body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Law enforcers recovered some remains of the crude bombs, machetes, and locally-made arms from the spot.
Superintendent of police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam will address a press conference in this connection at District police conference room at about 12:00noon on Thursday.
