Rajshahi University: Five activists of Rajshahi University (RU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were handed over to police on Monday for violating the organisation’s rules.

BCL RU unit president Golam Kibria and general secretary handed them over to police around 1:30pm.

However, the five activists—Sakib, Nitya, Shahadat, Faisal and Sourav– were released from the police station later.

Sources said a scuffle ensued between the BCL activists Nitya, Shahadat and BCL RU unit human resources affairs secretary Ferdous Mahmud Srabon on Sunday night over entering a cultural function at the university auditorium organised by the RU Career Club.

Following the matter, a group of BCL men attacked Shakil and some of his associates on Monday noon.

BCL general secretary Faisal Ahmed Ronu told UNB that they handed over the five activists to police for violating the party rules.

Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, said the BCL men were handed over to them to bring the situation under control and they were later released.
