Dhaka: A legal notice has been served to the authorities concerned to take action against musical events arranged on the rooftops in residential areas.

On behalf of Syed Mohammad Mukdadul Islam from Sylhet, advocate Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury from Chittagong and Mohammad Arifur Rahman from Dhaka, advocate Mohammad Ahsan, lawyer of the Supreme Court, sent the notice to secretary of Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and police commissioners of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

The notice said that a government official was beaten dead at RK Mission Road of the capital recently as he urged to stop music at a ‘gaye halud programme’. The sufferings are very common in the city areas.

Violating the Sound Pollution Control Act-2006, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1978, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Ordinance 2009, musical sessions are being arranged on the rooftops of houses in high volumes during marriage ceremonies by the people which has become a common scenario in the city areas.

Without any permission from concerned authorities, people will not be allowed to arrange any musical programmes like musical sessions, concert and DJ Party, on the rooftop.

The notice also added that a writ will be filed with the High Court if the concerned authorities do not take any actions to ban sound issuing circular within four working days after receiving the notice.
