10 get death penalty for killing farmer in Habiganj

Habiganj: A Habiganj court on Wednesday sentenced 10 people to death for killing a farmer at Baghjur village under Baniachong upazila of the district in 2001.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroza Parvin pronounced the verdict around 1:00pm, a court official said.
The condemned convicts are Abdul Mannan, Ramij Ali, Tariq Ullah, Abdur Rahman, Bachchu Miah, Abdus Salam, Yusuf Ullah, Abdul Motalib, Abdul Hannan and Nasim Ullah. All are residents of the same village.
According to prosecution, the accused hacked Abdur Razzaque to death at the village when he was going to a local mosque on October 29, 2001 over previous enmity.
The victim’s son Harun Miah filed a murder case after that with Baniachong police station against 27 people.
Police after investigation submitted charge-sheet before the court against 10 people.
Later, the judge examining 12 witnesses and evidences announced the judgment in presence of seven people.
The judge also acquitted 17 accused of the case as the killing charge brought against them was not proved.
