Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Thursday formally launched his party’s campaign here for the next general election slated for December this year.

Ershad offered Fateha at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran in the afternoon and left Sylhet after holding a meeting with local party leaders at the circuit house, reports the UNB.

Jtiya Party leaders GM Kader, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid and Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu accompanied Ershad, reports the UNB.

Talking to reporters after offering the ziarat, the JaPa chief said his party wants the next general election to be held as per the constitution, not under any caretaker government.

‘Jatiya Party doesn’t believe in caretaker government. So, we want the national election to be held as per the Constitution. In the upcoming election, Jatiya Party will nominate candidates for 300 seats,’ he said.

Ershad said Jatiya Party believes in democracy and election, and it believes no government can be formed without election.

Earlier, on January 30, AL President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched her party’s campaign from Sylhet for the upcoming national election.

The Prime Minister offered fateha at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA), Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) and Hazrat Gazi Borhan Uddin (RA) in the city.
