Dhaka: A group of people shouting slogans in favour of Awami League and its election symbol ‘boat’ chanting slogans of their symbols while BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade crossing Narsingdi’s Bhelanagr area on her way to Sylhet on Monday morning.

Around one hundred rowdy people started chanting slogans of ‘boat’ in front of Narsingdi district jail at Bhelanagar in presence of huge police as Khaleda’s motorcade reached there around 11:20am.

At one stage, they showed shoes and sandals towards her motorcade.

They also tried to attack a car of Juba Dal central leader Mahbubul Hasan Pinku but police resisted them.

Huge law enforcers were seen deployed at different important points on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway centering Khaleda Zia’s Sylhet tour.

The law enforcers were also seen obstructing BNP leaders and activists to take positions at many points of the highway to welcome their chairperson.

BNP senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told UNB that police are not allowing their party leaders and activists to stand on Dhaka-Sylhet highway’s many points to welcome their party chief on her way to Sylhet.

He also alleged that police were also detaining their party men trying to take positions on the highway. However, he said, the ruling party men were staging demonstrations at some points in presence of police.

Earlier in the day, the BNP chairperson left her Gulshan residence for Sylhet by road around 9:15am to offer fateha at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) as a special court here is set to pronounce its verdict on Thursday in a graft case against her.
