Narayanganj: Police detained six leaders, activists of BNP from different places in the district on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway while they welcomed their party chairperson Khaleda Zia on her way to Sylhet on Monday morning.

The arrestees include Nazrul Islam Azad, international affairs secretary of BNP central committee, Narayanganj City BNP vice-president Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan.

They were arrested from Shimrail, Sanar par, Araihazar area of the district around 11:00am, said Md Sharfuddin, additional superintendent of Narayanganj Police.

Earlier in the day, the BNP chairperson left her Gulshan residence for Sylhet by road around 9:15am to offer fateha at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) as a special court here is set to pronounce its verdict on Thursday in a graft case against her.
