A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide in Rajshahi on Friday afternoon after the death of her friend in a road accident, reported UNB.

The deceased are identified as Tamanna Ferdous Keya, and her friend Turja.

Both the victims were Class-X students of Dasmari High School, police said.

Matihar Police Station officer-in-charge Humayan Kabir said Turja suffered serious injuries after a trolley hit his motorcycle at about 12:45pm while returning home from Binodpur.

He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at about 2:30pm.

As the news of Turja’s death travelled fast, his friend Keya hanged herself from the ceiling of her room with a scarf, locals said, adding that they were in love with each other.

Family members rescued the girl and took her to the RMCH where she died after some time.
