Rape, women repression decreased, says Amu

Dhaka: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday said the incidents of rape and repression against women and children, abduction, robbery and killing have decreased over the last one year.
The minister made the claim while talking to reporters after a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the Home Ministry.
He said that the government is strict in stopping drug use adding that militancy situation is already under control.
According to the minister, a total of 10,123 drug traders and peddlers were arrested in 2017.
The minister also said at least 78 people were killed in 32 anti-militancy operations since July 2016 and 64 top militants were arrested.
Among other members of the committee, Law Minister Advocate Anisul Huq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khaman Kamal, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and heads of different law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
The industries minister further said the law enforcers will keep vigil so that BNP cannot create any untoward situation in the country.
‘People no more like vandalism and anarchy. Stern action will be taken against those who will try to create anarchy in the name of protest. No one will be spared,’ Amu said.
