Dhaka: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed a High Court order that had stayed the proceeding of a violence case filed in Comilla, against 78 BNP leaders and activists including its Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The court also set March 29, to hear the appeal on a regular bench of Appellate Division, said the Attorney General.

According to the case statement, seven people were killed and 20 others were injured on February 3 in 2015, as a bus was torched at Chauddagram area of Comilla on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway during the non-stop blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led alliance.

Chauddagram police filed the case accusing 56 BNP menon charge of sabotage.

Police later filed a charge sheet against 78 BNP men including its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and its Senior Joint Secretary GeneralRuhul Kabir Rizvi in the case.

In October 2017, High Court stayed the trial proceedings of the case while Rizvi filed an appeal seeking stay on it and issued a rule challenging the legality of the case.
