Sirajganj: A court here on Monday sentenced seven people to life term imprisonment for killing a minor girl after rape in 2010.

The convicts are - Abdul Hakit, 46, Lokman, 53, Hasan Ali, 33, Rana, 33, Nabir Hossain, 36, Rafiqul Islam, 33 and Hasan Ali, 38, of Shahzadpur upazila. Off them, Rafiqul was tried in absentia.

Sirajganj Additional District and Session Judge Rafiqul Islam passed the order after examining records and witnesses.

The court also fined Tk 50,000 each in default or to suffer rigorous imprisonment for six months more.

According to the prosecution, the 11-year-old daughter of Shaheb Ali of Kayempur village had gone missing on July 11, 2010. Later, the body of the victim was found at a jute field on the following day.

Victim's mother filed a case with Shahzadpur Police Station.

After examining records and witnesses, police submitted chargesheet against eight people. Off them, Nabi Mollah died in prison during the trial.
