Dhaka: A bill titled ‘Court Fees (Amendment) Act, 2016’ was placed in Parliament on Wednesday aiming to ease the hassle faced by the people through creating scope to pay court fees electronically or digitally.
Law Minister Anisul Huq placed the Bill and it was sent to the respective Parliamentary Standing Committee for scrutiny.
The Committee was asked to submit its report within 21 days.
Currently, the fees and charges can be deposited either by stamps or, when there is a scarcity of stamps, in cash or receipts.
The Bill said that the government may appoint any scheduled bank, mobile operator, mobile phone based financial service, authority or agent to receive such fees.
It also raised the fine for violation of the law from Tk 500 to Tk 15,000.
