Moudud accuses govt of lingering Khaleda Zia’s release

Dhaka: BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Tuesday alleged that the government is trying to linger their Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail ‘using’ the lower judiciary.
‘The lower court is now not under the Supreme Court as it has now gone under the executive branch. As hour leader (Khaleda) was granted bail by the apex court, a Comilla court sent a warrant against her with a motive to keep her in jail until March 28. It’s nothing, but the government’s meanness,’ he said.
Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader said Khaleda Zia will soon return to them walking out of jail, no matter how many conspiracies and tricks the government resort to.
Moudud, a senior lawyer and BNP standing committee member, said all but four cases—two in Dhaka, one each in Comilla and Narail—remain stayed against their chairperson.
Zia Parishad arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
The BNP leader hoped that the full bench of the Supreme Court will uphold the High Court order granting bail to Khaleda in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in which she was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
He said their party will join the next polls under the leadership of their party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Moudud also said the 11th parliamentary elections will be held under a neutral administration, and BNP will win it with a big margin.
