Sylhet: A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) suffered bullet wound during a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus on Tuesday night.

The victim is SM Abdullah Al Rony, a student of Food Engineering and Tea Technology department.

SUST Proctor Prof Zahir Uddin Ahmed said two factions of SUST unit BCL—one led by Abu Syed Akando and the other led by Tariqul Islam – both vice-presidents of the unit, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy on the campus.

On Tuesday, a group of BCL men, led by Akando, Syed Jewel and Sajidul Islam Sabuj, swooped on Tariqul Islam while he was gossiping at Satkara Restaurant near the main entrance of the university around 10:00pm, he said.

At one stage of scuffle, Tariqul opened fire, leaving Rony who was present at the restaurant, injured.

Rony who sustained bullet injuries to his leg was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Faruk Ahmed, sub-inspector of the hospital police camp.
