SUST BCL leader held over factional clash
Sylhet: Police have arrested a vice-president of Shahjalal Science and Technology University (SUST) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over a factional clash on the campus that left a student wounded by a bullet.
Syed Juyem was picked up from the university campus on Wednesday night, said officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station Shafiqul Islam.
Earlier in the day, another vice-president of the BCL unit Tariqul Islam filed a case against 10 named BCL men, including Syed Juyem and unit joint general secretary Ashraful Alam Antu, and 10 unnamed ones over the clash that took place between two groups of the ruling party’s student wing.
Bangladesh Chhatra League also expelled central committee members Abu Sayeed Akanda and Sazidul Islam Sabuj and suspended 10 BCL men over the clash.
Those were suspended are Syed Juyem, Antu, SUST BCL organising secretary Dolan Ahmed, deputy liberation war affairs secretary Laksan Chandra Barman, members Munkar Kazi, Toufiqur Rahman Tanmay, Basir Miah, Meher Uddin Himel, Raihan Ahmed and Shariful Malik Sharif.
Earlier on Tuesday night, SM Abdullah Rony, a student of Food Engineering and Technology department, was injured during the BCL factional clash on the campus.
